Headstart Nursery, Inc., is proud to be your producer of top quality vegetable transplants and ornamental plugs & liners. Started in 1979, as a Cal Poly State University student's senior project, Steve Costa, President, embraced the school motto of 'learn by doing'. Along with his brother Randy, Steve built the nursery from the ground up. Located in beautiful Gilroy, California, just outside the Salinas Valley, Headstart experiences favorable growing conditions year round with moderate winters, cool summer nights and warm summer days.

In its early days, the primary focus at Headstart was the production of bell peppers for nearby Christopher Ranch. The top quality transplants attracted the attention of other local growers and quickly the business, and product lines, expanded. Additional facilities were added in the Coachella Valley to help Headstart service an increased customer base as efficiently and as economically as possible.

In 1986, an ornamental line of perennials, herbs, cut flowers, and vegetative liners was added to the Headstart product mix. In 2006, this Department underwent a 'face lift' as we've worked to improve our overall growing practices, quality, and customer service. Today, our number one goal is to provide you, our customer, with the finest quality young plants and best possible customer service on the market.
